About the Authors

Nina Wachsman is a descendant of a dynasty of rabbis, including one who lived in 17th-century Venice alongside Rabbi Leon de Modena. A frequent visitor to the historic Venetian Ghetto, she draws on her family's deep roots and extensive research to bring its rich Jewish history to life. Inspired by de Modena's autobiography and the timeless concerns he expressed for his children, Wachsman weaves historical detail with compelling storytelling, creating novels that explore family, identity, and resilience across generations.

Michelle Friedman is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and educator whose work explores the transformative power of listening and the resilience of the human spirit. A graduate of Barnard College, NYU School of Medicine, and the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Center, she holds the Sharon and Steven Lieberman Chair in Pastoral Counseling at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She maintains a private practice in Manhattan, where she lives with her husband.
