About this talk

Step into the rich and complex Jewish heritage of Eastern Poland, once known as Polish Galicia, with this immersive virtual tour through Tarnów, Przemyśl, and Rzeszów. These historic towns, once home to vibrant Jewish communities, reveal stories of resilience, culture, and loss that still echo today.

In Przemyśl, one of Galicia's oldest Jewish centers, merchants, scholars, and craftsmen shaped the city's character. Visitors can explore remnants of synagogues, walk through the former Jewish quarter—later turned into a ghetto during World War II—and learn about the community's unique role at the crossroads of East and West.

In Tarnów, the beautifully preserved old town contrasts with the haunting ruins of the Great Synagogue and the historic Jewish cemetery, bearing witness to centuries of life and the town's tragic role in the Holocaust.

Rzeszów, once nicknamed the "Little Jerusalem" of Galicia, had a thriving Jewish population. Its synagogue architecture and preserved Jewish quarter still reflect this vibrant past.

This tour offers insight into everyday Jewish life, cultural contributions, and the devastating events of the 20th century—connecting history with memory in a meaningful way.
